| DVD Description SiCKO is more like a controlled howl of protest than a documentary. Toning down the rhetoric of past efforts--no CEOs, congressmen, or celebrities were accosted in the making of this film--Michael Moore's latest provocation is just as heartfelt, if not more heartbreaking. As he clarifies from the outset, his subject isn't the 45 million Americans without insurance, but those whose coverage has failed to meet their needs. He starts by speaking with patients who've been denied life-saving procedures, like chemotherapy, for the most spurious of reasons. Then he travels to Canada, England, and France to see if socialized medicine is as inefficient as U.S. politicians like to claim--especially those who receive funding from pharmaceutical companies. Moore finds quality care available to all, regardless as to income. He concludes with a stunt that made headlines when he assembles a group of 9/11 rescue workers suffering from a variety of afflictions. When Moore is informed that detainees at Guantánamo Bay--technically American soil--qualify for universal coverage, he and his companions travel to Cuba to get in on that action. It's a typically grandstanding move on Moore's part. And it proves remarkably effective when these altruistic individuals, who've either been denied treatment or forced to pay outrageous costs for their medication, experience a dramatically different system. Nine years in the making, SiCKO makes a persuasive case that it's time for America to catch up with the rest of the world. --Kathleen C. Fennessy |

Great Movie Michael Moore has come a long way from his previous movies. In this film he is able to show the sad state of healthcare today without the confrontation and condescension of his previous work. Yet, he still manages to give some hope and humor. The extra material adds even more to the overall picture Moore is trying to let viewers in on, particularly the extra places he visited and the longer interview with Tony Benn. Definitely worth watching as well as educational.
Powerful & Moving! A film that EVERY American should watch! It certainly is pleasing to see, and to read the large volume of positive reviews for "Sicko" here on Amazon.
This film will make you cry. It will make you angry. Hopefully it will also cause you to take action and fight for common sense and the welfare and wellbeing of every man, woman, and child who calls America "home".
Be sure to watch ALL of the extra features on this DVD, which add up to almost a full second film!
I would like to thank Michael Moore for making such an outstanding film that examines an issue that effects EVERYONE. I know that Mr. Moore certainly has his critics, but this film delivers a message of common sense that cannot be ignored. It's one of the best films I have seen in YEARS, and certainly one of the most important films of our time. I have purchased multiple copies to give to just about everyone that I know.
I urge everyone to see this film!
