Better than most in the last 10 years
Better production than in previous years. Plays very well on a very large screen. Coordination of music and scenes was better. Didn't overdo the boreding, er, boarding this time. It doesn't hurt that hometown boy, Jeremy Bloom, does a lot of the narration and throws in some WM-style quips here and there. Enjoyed the freeheeling segments as well, even though I prefer my heels locked down when not climbing.
No Warren and very little b.c. snowboarding
If it came from someone else, maybe 4 stars but I expect better. The first half of the movie was wasted. The second half came on strong. But guys - we need more back-country off-piste snowboarding. I'm good with the skiing but let's find some balance.
Glad I bought it but wish I had borrowed it.
Warren Miller's 56th.
Yes, there is a lot of commercialization. Yes, the Warren Miller movie scene is changing. But how can you argue with another installment of a Warren Miller movie. I have been seeing the movies for more years then I can remember and Higher Ground still had the Warren Miller feel.
One of the most confusing aspects was the lack of Warren Miller. I was dissapointed that he didn't have any new lines in it. However, there was still some awesome skiing and a great soundtrack. If you are a Warren Miller fan, this movie is definately worth seeing. If you want a good ski movie, check out some of his other recent movies. My personal favorite is Storm.
This year's film, Off the Grid, definately improved over his past two (Higher Ground and Impact). Go see it if you have the chance!
