DVD Description

Audrey Hepburn plays a Parisienne whose husband is murdered and who finds she is being followed by four men seeking the fortune her late spouse had hidden away. Cary Grant is the stranger who comes to her aid, but his real motives aren't entirely clear--could he even be the killer? The 1963 film is directed by Stanley Donen, but it has been called "Hitchcockian" for good reason: the possible duplicities between lovers, the unspoken agendas between a man and woman sharing secrets. Charade is nowhere as significant as a Hitchcock film, but suspense-wise it holds its own; and Donen's glossy production lends itself to the welcome experience of stargazing. One wants Cary Grant to be Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn to be no one but Audrey Hepburn in a Hollywood product such as this, and they certainly don't let us down. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews

Hilarious and Intense! Superb film-making!

I don't know what I was expecting from this movie. I've liked the lead actors in everything I've seen them in. Until recently I had not even heard of this film.

Now I know just how little I know about movies.

This one blew my mind. Few movies I've seen have been consistently good every second of the way. This one easily makes that list. The music (!), the colors, the suspense, and yes the acting too - all engrossing. It was intense when it needed to be (Tex and his matches come to mind), funny when it needed to be (and the jokes were actually hilarious!), romantic when necessary.

While some of the plot twists were obvious, I don't think that detracted from the suspense. After all, for any movie you've seen more than once (and hence must like?), you already know the plot in advance. This one is definitely rewatchable.

TERRIFIC

Movie was a great "Play On Words" - Could never get tired of watching this!

Wasn't this free before?

This is one of my all-time favorites. I just happened to come across this on here a week ago. It showed it for free then and now it has a price. I know I was viewing it on a Mac and now I'm on a PC, but that shouldn't make a difference. I was hoping to download it to try on my iPod. I don't want to pay for something before I know whether it will work out or not. Some of the other movies I looked at last week now have a price too. The only free downloads I can find are junk. Nothing that I would ever want to watch.
