DVD Description

Another action flick from an unlikely source (wildly inconsistent Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky), buddy movie Tango & Cash teams Sly Stallone and Kurt Russell as bullet-dodging cops who get on each others' nerves while uniting against a slimy French drug kingpin (Jack Palance). Violent, profane, and packed with implausibilities, this is one of those big-budget, stunt-laden affairs that gets by on the charisma of its stars, and they almost pull it off. Tango & Cash was Stallone's first attempt to share the spotlight with another hero, and he's casually laid-back in his change-of-pace role (well, OK, it's not that change-of-pace), while Russell is equally enjoyable as Sly's well-coifed sidekick. Ridiculous all the way, this one is entertaining if only as a virtual catalog of action-movie clichés.--Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews

Kurt Russell in drag, and Stallone screening his guests!

Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone shine in this action comedy. Jack Palance plays the evil drug lord who is insulted on how Russell and Stallone have costed him millions. To allow major shipment to arrive, Palance and his associates come up with a plan to put Russell (Cash) and Stallone (Tango) in prision knowingly that they wont come out alive. Teri Hatcher plays the sultry Kiki who works at an adult club (dancing) and in the movie happens to be Tango's sister. Cash and Tango escape prision, try to find who set them up and find out that Jack Palance is the mastermind. Russell and Stallone had some really funny moments (court scene where Cash just lets it all out on what he thinks), great laughs, and good action. Russell dressed up in drag and being Kiki's property was hillarious. Tango walking in on his sister and Cash; priceless.
Will Tango and Cash defeat Jack Palance? What happens to Captain Dynoball? See the movie!

"Rambo was a p****"

"Tango and Cash" is a predictable, not-to-heavy-on-the-brain actioner that is nothing special, but actually entertains. Kurt Russel and Sylvester Stallone have a good level of on-screen chemistry that works well and provides a lot of the movie's appeal.

The plot is your predictable cop actioner: super cops become victims of their own success and their number one crime-boss fan has had enough. Rather than just kill them, he decides on framing them and getting them sent to prison. The rest is fairly predictable.

The action is quite good, though again, nothing special. Some of the characters are played pretty much like cardboard cutouts, but that is ok with an action film. As mentioned, the banter that happens between Tango and Cash is one of the main appeals of the movie.

At times corny, (Stallone's attempt to act like a caring brother was a bit of a laugh), this film is a good bit of entertainment, though it looks a bit dated. Unsurprisingly, it has not become a classic, but it is still a good movie to watch and enjoy.
