VHS Tape Description

For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the first two Batman movies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called ... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick (who later made the delightful James and the Giant Peach), this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen." --Jim Emerson

A Stunning Christmas Movie Everyone Will Love!!

This is one of the best Christmas movies I have ever seen. It is very entertaining and touching. One of the best tales of a scary-Christmas I've ever seen. It's very well animated with clay, and I think it's a masterpiece in movies. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a movie everybody should own because it is one of the best family movies you will ever see.

why so expensive?

To review this DVD is a challenge to me. It was an overpriced item to begin with, but I had loved the movie so much in the theatre that I chose a gently used copy to purchase. Here is the part of the review where I remind AMAZON users to check ratings and read reviews of sellers because it was one of the two times in many purchases that I never received the product nor was I refunded any money. Which is my problem with the whole process. Although many dealers are reputable and have a priority of customer service. Some are not and they already have your money. So I gave the 3 star rating only because it was a great movie and I'm imagining that it's out of print because you will be hard pressed to find a decent copy for under thirty dollars.

Set Up And Bonus Material Menu Problem!

Even though mine was authentic dvd released by Buena Vista Home Entertainment and it was truly region 1 but I am having some difficulties to access the set up menu for audio and subtitle. Sometimes the menu for set up did not appeared to the screen and I have to press 'play' or jump to scene to get the DTS track sound. I am also having problem to access the bonus material esspecially to access to Tim Burton's early movie such as Vincent and Frankenweenie. I have to try hard and few times to make sure it appear. By minusing 1 star for this dvd edition, I think is fair enough because of the problems on disc. However the movie absolutely amazing and hopefully Buena Vista will re-release it after fix up all the problems or for Blu Ray and I have no doubt to buy it again!
