VHS Tape Description

This curiosity from the mid-1970s is breathtaking in its dreadfulness. Directed by Hal Needham, this was an attempt at creating a Roadrunner cartoon with live actors--except that instead of a live actor they got Arnold Schwarzenegger, before Hollywood smoothed his rough edges (and his Austrian accent). He plays the invulnerable sheriff who rides blithely through life, unaware that the evil Kirk Douglas wants to kill him and kidnap his squeeze, Ann-Margret. The stunts are cartoony without being funny and Schwarzenegger shows exactly why he was known as "the Austrian Oak." Douglas works extra hard but effort alone isn't enough to elevate this script. --Marshall Fine

The Villian

Cute movie. Saw it a long time ago. Thought I would get it for my father. It is an excellent addition to our movie collection. Classic Roadrunner/Coyote senario

The horse steals the show.

Don't expect a lot of good acting in this film. Kirk Douglas really tries to steal the show, but the horse "Whiskey" is the real star! Ann-Margret is around only for that great body and Arnold doesn't do or say much at all. It's best viewed to watch the character actors from that era, Jack Elam, Strother Martin, Ruth Buzzi and Mel Tillis. Four stars, but only because of the horse.

The Villian

A highly amusing Western parody combining the antics of a Roadrunner cartoon and Old West humor. Watching a young Kirk Douglas, Ann Margeret and the "Governator" is highly entertaining.
