| DVD Description Recovering from the box-office disappointment of The Cable Guy, Jim Carrey gave his fans what they wanted in this good-natured and frequently hilarious 1997 comedy. In a vehicle tailor-made for his verbal and physical antics, Carrey plays a lawyer whose penchant for prevarication is tested when his son makes a birthday wish that his father would tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth for 24 hours, so help him God! Without his daily defense of white lies, selfish fibs, and outright deception, the helpless lawyer finds himself blurting uncensored truths with total, and totally outrageous, candor. The script is clever enough to milk the premise for all it's worth, but it's Carrey's energy--particularly in a hilarious bathroom scene where he literally mugs himself to delay a trial--that keeps the movie going to its sappy happy ending. The supporting cast includes Jennifer Tilly, Cary Elwes, and Amanda Donohoe. --Jeff Shannon |

Miles ahead of those kid movies, The Mask and its sloppy seconds. Jim Carrey once again works His charming magic onto us in Liar, Liar. He plays a businessman in this title and lets his son down time and time again. His birthday party, school-related affairs and so on.
But at His birthday party the son actually wishes for His father to stop lying all the time before blowing out the candles... and it WORKS.
Jim Carrey is thrown into a frenzy and instead of gritting His teeth and telling His female co-worker her face or clothing and such look fine, He speaks the truth, spilling the fact that She's a hideous sight to everyone near!
I'm telling you parts like that make the movie a hoot.
There is another guy in Jim's ex-wife's life now. And Jim despises Him and wants to be in their lives as opposed to this "Mr. Noboby".
Eventually, things get patched up rather well, and Jim stops lying to the poor boy.
Definitely worth watching. And I'd actually recommend buying as opposed to renting.

so funny!! I'd say this is the funniest movie I've ever seen! Everytime I need a laugh I put this movie in!!
Excellent Comedy This is one of Jim Carreys best. He's a successful lawyer who's divorced and his ex keeps urging him to stop disappointing his son. That is until his son makes a birthday wish for his Dad not to lie. An attorney who can't lie?! Very, very funny! |
